Physical Appearance (cont.)
Freckled ashen-grey skin and long and thick black hair, frequently tied up in a loose ponytail. Hanging from her left ear is a small crystalline earring, almost shaped like it were a broken piece of an aetheryte. She always has a burgundy sheen of lipstick accompanied by heavy eyeshadow, with a long and thin scar ranging from the bridge of her nose to just below her left eye.She carries with her a cheerful smile when traveling about, often disarming the assumption of those who would call her unapproachable. Though hidden by a set of tinted shades, she holds a piercing set of crimson eyes with the smallest of wrinkles that hide underneath her lower lids.Spending much of her years as an adventurer, she has numerous scars across her already rosy figure that range from small cuts and bruises to more extensive and older gashes and burns. Each tells a story.Being a woman who prefers the open road, Orielle tends to stick to lighter clothing. Rarely does she prefer the northern weather of Coerthas and Ilsabard, and she instead wears lightweight jackets, coats, blouses, and so on that keep her comfortable.Belts, buckles, and other straps hold together all sorts of hidden pieces of equipment and trinkets on her person. Pouches, bags, and even a knapsack that rests on her shoulders while out in the world carry all sorts of useful items for a self-respecting adventurer. When she's out during the day, she'll be caught wearing some form of protective eyewear, notably a pair of sunglasses that keep firmly on her face. Often, she'll pair said eyewear with an old cowboy hat, frayed at the edges, with a small hawk feather nestled at the top of the aged piece of headwear.Orielle, as a Viper, wields a pair of matching swords known to her order as Twinfangs, each with a pommel functioning as a connecting force and is which allows her swords to turn into a singular polearm. Secured onto her back with matching sheathes, they serve as her primary tool when dealing with monsters of all kinds and sizes.Though her voice has a low and husky rasp, the unmistakable Gelmorran accent slips through the cracks of her vocabulary. Try as she might to mask it through her many years spent in La Noscea, there is little she can do to cover it up.
Personality (cont.)
Orielle is a fairly friendly individual, keen on making new allies wherever she goes. She has a very devil-may-care demeanor, oftentimes laidback and willing to chat with a new face, if for no other reason than to create more business opportunities for herself.Being a Viper, she always has an ear to the ground, awaiting the next chance to set her sights on something bigger. She can be impulsive at times to the point of recklessness, which tends to land her in more trouble than it's worth.
Friendly as she might be, her demeanor can often change when in the presence of Gridanian individuals. Given her not-so-pleasant history of dealing with Wood Wailers or Gridanians and the like, she'll often keep to her own company as a preference rather than speaking with their ilk.Although she claims herself an open book, she tends to keep most of her own personal life under wraps, often dodging or finding ways to evade any questions about her own affairs. She has her own code of loyalty that she follows, and though she sticks to her friends and will step in to aid them, at the end of the day, she follows a strict set of rules governed by herself to never step out of line and stick to her principles with no room for exceptions.
This is a non-exhaustive list of ways for your character to meet Orielle. If you have alternative ideas, please let me know!
Bard-Friend
Bards and other performers always manage to catch her fancy. Whether it's the passing harpist or a person's singing voice, she's always been attracted to music from a very young age.You can always bet she may be close by if you're playing an enticing enough tune.
Hireable Help
Orielle can often be seen taking on jobs offered by crafters, merchants, and more for the right price.Whether they call upon her assistance for gathering materials, hunting monsters, or guarding caravans, she might be willing to offer her services to you, should you ask.
Taverngoer
It's easy to find coin and opportunities when traveling through an inn or tavern. Many an adventurer might come across Orielle in places like the Quicksand or some other dingy coven of mercenary types. She'll rarely say no to a drink if the company's good.
Dutiful Sister
Senior members, both retired or otherwise, may remember potentially seeing Orielle among the ranks of the Dutiful Sisters of the Edelwiss.Though she has since ceased most of her work with the Rogues' Guild, she's still privy to the Code that she enforced for the better half of her early adulthood.
Viper-Trained
Two swords hang on her back at all times in her standard clothing. Anyone privy to Turali culture may recognize her as one of their monster-hunting Vipers. The swords themselves look ancient, as if handed down from an old friend.Perhaps they are?
A Smithy's Best Friend
Being out on the road and getting into all sorts of danger leads to equipment getting damaged, or worse, broken. Seeing as Orielle tends to favor taking on beasts that tower over her or deal devastating amounts of damage to her gear, she's seen her fair share of smiths. If you happen to be the best of the best, she may be willing to burn a hole in her pockets for you.
Injured on the Road
Healers are always in short supply, somehow, wherever Orielle seems to end up. Regardless, they're always a welcome sight after a long battle.A medic, a sage, chiurgeon, what have you, Orielle's always looking for somebody to turn to after a rough battle. She'll at least give a good tip.
Technologic Aspirant
Magitek, electrope, and potentially even Allagan technology have always interested her, ranging from basic firearms to advanced machinery.Though her skill in engineering pales in comparison to her eagerness, she's willing to learn from the right teacher.
Gelmorran Born
Though she's spent a good decade or two in La Noscea and beyond, the unmistakable accent of someone hailing from Gelmorra is still plain in her dialogue.Certain words she still struggles with in Common, while other words flow seamlessly when speaking her native tongue.
Full Disclaimer! This just has a run-down of Orielle's entire history. I tried to keep as spoiler-free as I could, but you've been warned!
Early Years (1547-1559 6AE)
Orielle was raised in the deep undercity that is Gelmorra. More importantly, she came from a smaller village deeper in the now lost western portion of the Shroud. Born to a family of three, Orielle spent much of her early youth glued to her mother's hip, learning how to protect herself and fight at a young age. She was the youngest of the family, her older brother, Emaux, being well over a decade older than her.Life was harsh, and in her village, her family and the rest of her small village held a strong reverence for Nophica, the Matron. Orielle was no exception to this belief, often following in the footsteps of her family in their religious teachings in addition to her strict training. Even entertaining the idea of venturing to the surface was not only frowned upon but threatened with exile or death. She had very little chance for a proper childhood, given that existence deep in Gelmorra was anything but kind. To survive, one had to be tough and prepared for any sort of danger, given the many beasts and monsters that lurked in the already crumbling city.Still, both she and her brother would find time to escape and seek joy in the small things like music or sneaking out while everyone was asleep and sitting by a lake, illuminated by glowing flora.Deep down, she had a desire to see the surface for herself, but was afraid to leave her life behind. To risk exile or even execution was not something she desired, so she resigned herself to a life underground.... At least until her twelfth summer, when her entire world was flipped in more ways than one. The village succumbed to a destructive collapse, and a rivalling clan took advantage of the chaos, nearly killing both her and Emaux. With her parents nowhere to be found and little time to ponder, the two escaped through a series of tunnels, only to be found by the same clan, each one dressed in dark blue robes and strange masks.Buying Orielle time to escape, Emaux fought off their attackers while she ran as far as her feet could carry her, eventually crawling her way up to the surface after what felt like several days straight. She never knew what happened to her brother or any of her family, and given the state of the Western Shroud, she likely never would.Bruised, weak, and malnourished, Orielle stumbled her way through the forest, only to be attacked by a Morbol. Too weak to defend herself, she used the last bit of energy to swing madly with a dagger, only to fall unconscious shortly after. In the nick of time, she was subsequently rescued by a Hyur man clad in vibrant plate armor, and wielding a massive battleaxe. Bringing her back to the outskirts of Gridania, he sought medical attention for her and stayed by her side while she recovered. When she finally awoke, after some calming down, Orielle told him everything. She learned his name, Maeric, and after listening to her story, he offered to take her back to his family's home in La Noscea. She knew well enough of the Elementals and what they were capable of, not to mention the stories she heard of the Gridanians and Wood Wailers. She wasn't about to take her chances with them over the man who had saved her life. And so, she agreed, travelling with Maeric and starting a new life in Vylbrand.
La Noscea (1560-1567 6AE)
Orielle spent the better half of her life helping out Maeric at his family's tavern, handed down from his father and his grandfather before him. There, she'd help clean where she could, interacting with the locals who would frequent their little spot in La Noscea. From time to time, the two would travel to Limsa Lominsa together, which led to Orielle getting her first real taste of city life. Overwhelming, overstimulating, and the sunlight bearing down on her face and skin made it hard for her to adapt, but what truly made her love the city was the music. She adored the occasional bard that would play a song for the crowds in the city, or the street performer that would dance for coin. Occasionally, both she and Maeric would take the time to enjoy music together, all while offering a few coins to those playing. Not used to living on the surface, however, Orielle struggled the most with the sunlight. Her vision was her biggest problem, causing her headaches and other problems.Calling in a favor from a friend, Orielle would meet a Lalafell weaver by the name of Hisasa Hisa, who helped fashion her a comfortable and wide sun hat. Though the headaches never truly vanished, it solved her problem with the sun getting in her eyes. From there, life was far simpler than her time in Gelmorra, still practicing with her would-be guardian in swordplay with a desire to become an adventurer, much like himself. Still, with the need to make coin being her primary concern, she spent many a day working in Maeric's tavern, making enough earnings to allow herself a bit of spending money. In the small hours of the night, she still found herself reciting the prayers that which she had followed many years ago taught by her mother and father. It was ultimately an ordinary life. Honest, easy. Still, a part of Orielle wondered if she traded one life of complacency for another.
Cloak and Dagger (1568-1572 6AE/Year 0 7UE)
Even so far from home, it seemed Orielle's prayers had been answered in some strange way. One night, while returning home from the markets, she had encountered a pair of thugs harassing and trying to drag away a man to Twelve knows where. Not willing to turn a blind eye, she stepped in, surprising the thugs at the risk of being injured herself. Apprehending them and helping the man out, she aided in their capture. Little did she know, she was being tailed after she had turned the woman over to the authorities for safety. Before she made it to her home in Middle La Noscea, however, she was stopped by a Roegadyn woman with a pair of daggers at her hips, introducing herself as Abarwyda. She caught her little stunt in the alleyways of Limsa Lominsa and later offered her a chance to join the Dutiful Sisters of the Edelweiss.Orielle was hesitant, at first. She had heard rumors of some kind of knives in the shadows. However, she also saw it as a chance to truly prove herself and make her own name in the world, even if it was underground. She agreed, and the rest followed suit. For years, Orielle worked in the daytime as a simple server, still working the counter to help keep Maeric's tavern afloat until he could comfortably retire, but also made her own gil while working at night undercover as a Rogue. She'd take on jobs tailing people, apprehending slavers, and on other occasions, kill if she had to. She served as a blade in the shadows, upholding the Code she had sworn herself to when she agreed to join the Guild. She had found her own little bit of independence, not needing to rely on anybody to save her like so many times before. This time, it would be different. She was good at what she did, more than she ever realized.Eventually, her aim turned from unruly pirates to that of the Empire, earning a living killing Imperials aplenty from the shadows through covert operations. It stayed that way for years, keeping a low profile to the point where not even her guardian knew what she had been doing behind closed doors.
The Wanderer's Life (Year ~1AE - Present Day [???] 7AE)
Once more, however, her life was turned on its head upon the Seventh Umbral Calamity, but after surviving alongside Maeric, it awoke something new in her. With the coin she had made from her time as a rogue, she gave most of it to Maeric so that he could comfortably retire, and instead used what remained to become a proper adventurer. She said both her farewells to Maeric and the Dutiful Sisters, to which she was allowed to leave on the condition that she'd still follow the Code she swore to uphold. Naturally, she agreed, even offering her services should the need ever arise. And although Maeric was sad to see her go, he knew she'd at least come and visit him. While she started small, taking on easy adventuring jobs, it led to her making many new connections, taking on bigger monsters and contracts, which ultimately led to meeting a man who later became her new mentor.A Tonawawta man by the name of Temoshekwa had been traveling through the province of Eorzea. Hailing from the 'New World', the two stumbled upon each other during an intense battle against a massive Sandworm in Southern Thanalan by the name of Muirgaal.Admiring her finesse with blades and sharp precision, Temoshekwa offered to teach her the ways of the Viper.Eager to learn a new fighting style, Orielle happily agreed. She'd make her mark as a tried and true adventurer, all while experimenting with something completely new. From there, the two traveled together throughout Eorzea for a while longer before the duo left the land to venture west - to Tural. She'd then spend the latter half of her twenties into her thirtieth year in Shaaloani, learning the ways of the Viper. She and Temoshekwa would later take on many hunts together, until eventually she returned to Eorzea to visit old family and friends. These days, Orielle still takes on many odd jobs here and there as an adventurer for anybody who'd be willing to hire her. Now equipped with a pair of twinblades on her back and years of experience, she's finally made a comfortable name for herself as a Viper.Amassing herself with a new group of friends and now a chameleon that follows her around, she's settled into her own little slice of home in her apartment, taking what breaks and vacations she can.At least, for now.
Hi! I'm Hara.I've been in the roleplaying scene for as long as I can remember, playing various games such as WoW, ESO, SWTOR, and more, until I made my way to FFXIV.I've been playing this game for well over 2-3 years now. I have fallen in love with the lore and the game in general, and love that I get to share my own story with other players!General Rules
I'm 26, so I prefer people around my age or older. 21+ Players Only, please, thank you.I am trans. No transphobia, homophobia, racism, or any other sort of bigotry, thank you! Fetishization will not be tolerated. If my RP tag is on, I'm IC, but otherwise consider me OOC in any other scenario. I'm fine with walkups, just send me a tell if that's the case!I'm usually online in the beginning half of the week, so Sunday thru Tuesday any time after 8pm! I tend to be only very late, as my work schedule tends to revolve around those hours. EU/Oceanic players may blend very well with me for that reason.Lore breaking is not super encouraged around me, but as long as your character is relatively plausible, I can work with your character easily! Orielle's lore tends to bend a little, but I do try to stay within the confines of FFXIV's lore!I consider every action of mine as an attempt, but the usual big stuff requires communication beforehand. No dismemberment, death, or romance without consent, and this, of course, goes both ways.I can be a slow typer, and for that I am so sorry. I will do my best to mirror your writing style, but my writing can range from long-paragraph styles to shorter, one to two-sentence lines with faster output. It varies!Lastly, yes, I do have the crime launch codes. No, it's not a requirement to RP with me.Themes
This list is obviously non-exhaustive and can include more than I mention here! If you have an idea, please let me know! There's plenty more than what I have listed here, I'm sure.Adventure Roleplays: Orielle is the closest thing I have to a Monster Hunter character in FFXIV, so I love any kind of scene that involves her taking on a big baddie with a partner. Expeditions, small camping scenes, are also always a fun time!Core/Story Arc based RP: I'd love to have Orielle be part of an overarching story, whether it's being a side character in your own character's personal story or something bigger, I'm always open to it. The same goes for the opposite! I'm always open to exploring Orielle's own story with other people and getting to brainstorm ideas together.Romance: I'm a little more reserved about this one, but it's still accepted provided it's organic. I'm all for cute, slowburn moments between characters. Please just don't be weird.Casual/Slice-of-Life: Shenanigans, tavern RP, something very minor for characters to meet up is always welcome. It's not my first choice, but I'm always open to it.Darker/Mature Themes: These are kind of 'Your Mileage May Vary' in terms of what you're looking for. I enjoy delving into more 'darker' themes such as criminal topics, drugs, etc. As always, this goes back to the previous point of discussion before committing to anything of the sort. If you're uncomfortable about any mature themes, please let me know!
